How the light works

No model, no black box, no keys — Beacon is a formula you could check by hand.

Your twenty-six answers become a profile across thirteen dimensions. Every city carries researched numbers — Numbeo rents, cost-of-living and safety indexes, Wikipedia sunshine hours, its actual languages. Each dimension’s fit is one minus the distance between you and the city, weighted by how much that dimension tends to matter.

Four dimensions bend to your situation instead: language is a capability (shared tongue counts fully, English-friendliness partly, and your willingness to learn carries the rest); cost is one-way: a cheaper city never scores worse, your budget only sets how steeply pricier places fall, and the quality you named softens that fall; safety is a floor you set, softened by the tradeoff you chose; diversity counts exactly as much as you said it does.

Visas are group-level tourist-entry rules — passport blocs (EU freedom of movement, the Common Travel Area, Mercosur residence rights, trans-Tasman) plus each country’s typical entry list. Coarse by design and worth double-checking against official sources before you book anything.

The weighted average is raised to a power to spread the field, and that is your percentage — same answers, same result, every time. Jobs, pay bands, and homes are seeded formulas over each city’s industries, cost index, and market rent.
